Hasmonean Aqueduct Connected to Hanukkah Discovered in Jerusalem - Hot Off the Press

A 300-meter section of the Hasmonean Aqueduct was recently uncovered by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) in Ramat Rachel, on the outskirts of Jerusalem.

The Hasmoneans, better known as the Maccabees, are famously remembered for the story of Hanukkah. Following their victory over the Seleucid Greeks, the liberation and rededication of the Jewish Temple, and the miraculous relighting of the Menorah, they went on to establish Jewish self-rule in the Land of Israel. The Hasmonean dynasty ruled Judea for 103 years, from 140 BCE to 37 BCE.
